Event Details

Our final talk will round off the Words, Words, Words series delving into varying forms of creative expression and storytelling. We’ve invited along Musa Okwonga, Holly Gramazio and Tim Clare to talk about the performative nature of words.

Musa Okwonga is a football writer (The Independent, The New York Times), one half of electronic outfit The King’s Will (getting air time on XFM and BBC6 Music) and author of A Cultured Left Foot. He will discuss his greatest passions – poetry, music and sport and how he uses each of them in turn to craft stories. From analysing performances on the pitch to performing his own prose on stage, he will explore the possibilities for writing engaging but also meaningful social commentaries.

Holly Gramazio is leading game designer for Hide&Seek and has worked on a range of projects aimed at inventing new kinds of play, from Tiny Games, at the Southbank Centre, to the New Year Games, involving 12,000 players in Edinburgh. She will shed light on the role of words and stories in live games, the idea of spectating, and the way gaming elicits new stories from their players.

The Poetry Takeaway is the world's first mobile poetry emporium, offering free, bespoke poems on any subject in around ten minutes. Award-winning author, stand-up poet, musician, broadcaster and creator Tim Clare will tell the story of how a camping table and a homemade sign led to Australia and the Brit Awards, with more than 1,000 customers served along the way.
